Most of my time as a geography student I was also employed part-time at the Centre for Drug Research. This is where I first developed my interest for policies that seem to defy any sense of rationality. I especially worked with Peter Cohen on the Netherlands’ policies towards the production and consumption of ecstasy and cannabis. I also researched amphetamine use in Amsterdam
Squatting
My own publications on this subject can be found under publications.
Graffiti
I have done nothing with graffiti for years but I am still fascinated by this artistic vandalism.
Amsterdam
My home town!
I wrote on Amsterdam; see publications. You can also listen to Laurie Taylor’s radio documentary in which I participated:
- part 1: 'Emerging Tolerance'
- part 2: 'Regulated Tolerance'
- part 3: 'Intolerable Strangers'
- part 4: 'Whose City?'
The geography department at the Radboud University
This is where I worked the first half year after my graduation. My closest colleague was Henk van Houtum
Agora
I served as an editor at Agora for several years. I’m very happy that the journal is still there. In fact, while it was declared dead a couple of times in the past, it is now as vital as it ever was. It’s a good place for students to get some experience with publishing.
Rooilijn
I served at Rooilijn as an editor for several years. The journal is published by the department of geography and planning where I received my M.A.-training. Amidst is a research institute that is closely related to this department. I never worked for Amidst but I have cooperated with people at this institute during many of my past and present activities.
